football is off to a great start!

by Blue-Eyed Bride on August 31, 2008

My husband and I have lots of reasons to celebrate this Labor Day weekend! All of our teams won– even Furman! Washington and Lee didn’t play, but we’ll be sure to post their very exciting highlights throughout their football season.*
(* kidding)
Louisiana Tech (my alma mater) beat Mississippi State 22-14 in Ruston! The bulldogs vs. the bulldogs! It was the first time that Tech hosted an SEC team at home and the first time they’ve beaten an SEC team since 1999. Geaux Dawgs!

The University of South Carolina (my grad school alma mater) shut out NC State 34-0 at home on Thursday night. We’re looking forward to more exciting games this season as our schedule gets tougher. Todd is headed to Nashville on Thursday morning to watch the Gamecocks take on Vanderbilt. Go Cocks!

And maybe most importantly, Clemson lost. The ACC pretty much fell flat on their faces yesterday and our house couldn’t be happier. The No. 9 ranked team fell to No. 24, Alabama at the Georgia Dome. I’m not an Alabama fan, but I was yesterday. My cousin and her husband are big Alabama fans and I know they were happy. The final score was 34-10. Roll Tide!

While I don’t have any plans to cut my hair, I’m just smitten with Reese’s haircut and adorable dress. She always looks so happy!

How could I forget? It’s time for Carolina football!
Todd and I are walking to the stadium from our house. I’m leaving work at 2:00 and I’m so excited to be in the midst of Gamecock fever.
Let’s hope we leave and don’t look like this:

trick or treat

by Blue-Eyed Bride on August 28, 2008

I always find that my favorite Halloween goodies are in Pottery Barn Kids. The new catalog came yesterday and I’m finally going to break down and order the trick or treat basket with the monogrammed liner. It’s so cute! I wanted it last year and never ordered it. This year we’ll have real trick-or-treaters and we need a cute basket!

I’m also pretty sure that I need to locate those black and white lollipops!
Now, how cute are these costumes? I have to admit that they make me a little hungry! I think they’re a little small for Todd and me to wear, but we’ll keep it in mind in case we run out of options.

And the banana! She looks so happy to be dressed like an Organic Chiquita!

thank you to all of my fans!

by Blue-Eyed Bride on August 27, 2008

Just kidding. I’m so excited, though, because I received three awards this week! I am just so glad that people are actually reading all of my ramblings!

Nautical by Nature gave me this award! I’m so flattered. I love her blog and love to see the preppy clothes and hear about all of her fun adventures through LA, DC, and Australia!

Then I got this gorgeous Diamond Award from Vineyard Vogue and Nautical by Nature! Vineyard Vogue is so much fun. I swear she’s a Southern girl in the cold north! She always has adorable posts about life, fashion, fun, and a recent post full of adorable Golden Retriever puppy shots! We all know I love Golden Retrievers!

Thanks, ladies!

I’m supposed to pay it forward to five bloggers and they are:

Southern Daze- One of my favorite blogs. We have such similar taste and so many random things in common. She has also given me great tips on things to do in Dallas when I visit my parents.

Lavender Lily- A friend of mine from college that I randomly found in the blogosphere! Her writing style is wonderful and she has great ideas!

HaselBride- My favorite bride blog. I’m so excited to see her plan her wedding as it gets closer!

A Belle and her Beau- I just found this blog recently and it’s really adorable. Great ideas, products, and most recently, great wedding pictures!

All Things Fluffy Fabulous and Famous- She said it herself in a comment on one of my posts: we are so similar it’s scary. Her posts are funny and she’s a recent newlywed, too.

Check out all of these blogs and add them to your readers!

Why?????

by Blue-Eyed Bride on August 25, 2008

Another judge on American Idol? Is this necessary? I love the show and I’ll always watch it because I love music and I love to hear the good ones sing, but why would they try to do something else to create controversy at the judge’s table?

monday update

by Blue-Eyed Bride on August 25, 2008

Another Monday is here and I’ve finally made it through the day. I’m home in my comfy clothes sitting near our huge windows as a thunderstorm whirls around outside. My favorite! The dogs are wrestling and Fiona lets out a little yelp every time Boudreaux is a little too rough. Things are perfect! I’m just waiting for my wonderful husband to hurry home so we can eat our fine cereal dinner.

Some may read the above paragraph and think I’m being sarcastic, but this is truly my idea of perfection. I taught my second class today and it’s going really well. It’s a 9:00 a.m. class, so that’s a little tough, but I’m finally getting them to warm up. I got a few laughs today and they were becoming more engaged. I know that my second semester of teaching will get better, and fortunately for me I only have to teach for 50 minutes at a time. Because an hour is taken up three days a week by teaching, I really have to get down to business the rest of the day. I spent so much time today just hustling to get everything done. Teaching has definitely caused me to be more productive.

Todd and I had a really great weekend. We ran lots of errands on Saturday morning/afternoon and I have almost completed my Preppy Fall Swap shopping! No hints, though! We rented five {5, V} movies on Saturday afternoon. Todd went for a long run and I watched Enchanted with Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey. It was so cute! Then we watched Smart People with Ellen Page, Dennis Quaid, and Sarah Jessica Parker. It was funny and dry and Todd and I both enjoyed it.

I had started reading Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers a few months ago, but didn’t make much effort to commit to reading it. I decided to start reading it again on Saturday night and I haven’t been able to put it down! It is such an amazing story of a woman who needs to find love within herself, love for her husband, and most importantly, love for the Lord. I’m halfway finished now and I can’t wait to pick it up again tonight.

We went to Carowinds yesterday with one of my best friends {bridesmaid from Charlotte} and her boyfriend. The hands down best time to go to an amusement park is on a Sunday in August. The temperatures have been tolerable here and the crowds yesterday were almost non-existent. We rode every ride and didn’t even spend the whole day there. And the ride to Charlotte and back allowed me to get farther along in my book. Life is good!

The Gamecocks have their first home game on Thursday night and we seriously can’t wait! Football fever has consumed us and I’m not sure I’ll have much more than that to talk about this week. Hope my readers are football fans!

Who are you rootin’ for this season?

all things bright and beautiful

by Blue-Eyed Bride on August 22, 2008

Anthropologie’s fall shoe collection is to die for. I love the colors! I need to try to focus on purchasing more flats for the work week, but we all know that my legs look better in heels. Look at these colors! Fall can’t come soon enough!

what’s in a name?

by Blue-Eyed Bride on August 22, 2008

A lot, in my opinion, but that’s just me. I know that celebrities are different and they want to set their babies apart from the rest, but seriously, people!

Zuma Nesta Rock Rossdale?

I just can’t figure it out. You’re not naming a baby doll. You’re naming a person who will need to be taken seriously at board meetings, in the classroom, in front of groups of people, and in every aspect of his life. If any of these names were the names of their parents, grandparents, or ancestors I would give them a free pass.

My coworker (who is my newest reader) and I were talking about this today. Her baby’s name is unusual, but still in a classic and traditional kind of way. Sorry Gwen and Gav. I’m not a fan of the names, but welcome to the world Baby Rossdale!

happy birthday, Daddy!

by Blue-Eyed Bride on August 22, 2008

I don’t think it’s any secret how much I love my Dad. He set a really high standard for what a great man is in my life and he has been such a rock in my family’s life. Today is his birthday!!! This man is funny, giving, loving, talented, and by far, the best dancer who never knew he was so good!

He was so supportive during the wedding planning process and only complained once… or maybe twice. I don’t think there’s anything quite like a father/daughter relationship and the love that they share. After watching Father of the Bride about once a month for my entire life since the 4th grade, I imagined what it would be like on our wedding day when my Dad “gave me away.” I would tear up just thinking about it. Well, it was pretty emotional, but I think we were so wrapped up in the moment that we didn’t get carried away with it. Thank goodness. I guess we had years and years to prepare and we really knew that our relationship wouldn’t change even after Todd and I got married.

I love my father so much and want to wish him a wonderful day and a great year filled with love, happiness, family, and success!
