We’ve lived in our house for over a year and I’ve only given snippets of a tour on the blog. You’ve seen the nursery, the study, and the downstairs bathroom. I decided that I’m going to devote every Tuesday to posting photos of the house and give all of you a glimpse into our home.
Last fall I posted about our plans for our hallway and our wedding and engagement photos. I never posted photos of the completed project. (We did meet our goal to have them hung by Halloween though) Then the other day, my friend, Kate, asked for real life photos for her own gallery wall inspiration. We took all of our wedding and engagement photos and then we recently had Millie Holloman come take photos of Hudson. We plan to use Millie’s photos to fill up most of the rest of the wall.
The goal is to cover the wall from top to bottom with family photos. I used to love standing in the hallway at my grandparents’ house and looking at the pictures of everyone. We would stand there and count to see who had the most pictures of themselves in their hallway. I’ll post pictures when we get the rest of the photos hung up.
Next week: the master bedroom.
ETA: Many of you left comments asking where we purchased the frames. A local frame shop did them for us. It wasn’t inexpensive, but many of the photos were printed in unusual sizes so it was difficult to find ready made frames for them. The shop did, however, have some museum quality ready made frames that already had mats cut to fit. They told us that they would just put new mats in the frames to fit the photos, so that saved us a lot of money so we didn’t have to have all of them custom framed. There are about three or four that had to be custom framed. For the 5×7 and 8×10 photos that we ordered, we just purchased those size matted frames at Pottery Barn. It was important to me to buy frames with protective glass and museum quality mats to protect the images over time.

Oh, and I can’t believe you had your photos by Halloween. Puts into perspective how awful my photographer has been. Such a shame, because the pictures are so pretty, but they service has been terrible.

My parents have a giant picture hallway in their house. I just love it! It has pictures of them growing up, pictuers of me growing up, and pictuers of grand-parents and great grand-parents that were passed down to them.
I already have my own mini version going in our condo!
I love to see well decorated homes. Thank you for showing us yours! This is a beautiful idea, and an especially sentimental one now that you have your own little family.

Love it! I bought some frames and have been wanting to do that same thing in my hallway (it’s just a little hallway in an apartment but I figured it could always be moved to a house) but I havn’t gotten around to it yet.

I loooove it! If we had a good wall to do this on, I’d be driving my husband crazy to get this done! Sadly, our apartment has no good walls for a gallery wall. One day!

I LOVE this! I’ve read that people who have photos of people they love visible throughout their homes are happier than those who do not. I’m currently trying to push this agenda on my husband. (He’s really into art and old maps. I’m okay with SOME of this, but I don’t want our whole house to look like a museum.)

Gorgeous! What a great way to display family photos. I am planning to do something very similar in our dining room.
My grandmother filled the wall in her hallway with 8×10s of her children’s senior pictures in the order they were born (7 kids total). Then below it were 5×7s of the grandkids, that she’d update every year with our latest school picture. I loved looking at that wall.

Ok I love two things: 1. The home tour every Tuesday 2. The hallway of pictures. I also had a grandma who had a wall of pcitures and every single time I went to her house (which was a lot) I would stand and look at all the pictures. I need to start collecting frames now so when we get in a house I won’t have to buy them all at once. Where did you get yours?

I agree – this is a fabulous way to decorate your hallway. I love walking into a home and seeing this done – it gives off such a warm, welcoming, family feel to a home!! It is a beautiful thing to look down a hallway and literally watch a couple grow into a family – and watch that family grow and grow and grow!

Love this layout; I’ve done the same thing, basically, in my hallway. Amazing what some simple black & white frames (mine are from Michael’s), arranged artfully, can do for an otherwise random group of photos.

I’m new to blogging, and one of the reasons I started was how much I loved your site! This is such a great idea with the photos. My parents had a wall like this growing up, and it was so much fun to stand and look at everything.

I’ve just recently entered the blog world and I’m not sure how I stumbled upon your site, but I must say it is odd to feel a kindred spirit simply through looking at pictures and words on the internet. I did something very similar in my dining room. I know this is considered a decorating taboo, and although I like to think I have great style, I know I won’t be featured in Architectural Digest anytime soon, so I went with it. Thanks for posting these lovely pictures. You do us southern gals proud!
