1. What else would be my #1 thought other than the kickoff of Gamecock football 2009? We’re pretty excited around here. Both of Hudson’s little Gamecock outfits are a little too big for him, but we’re thinking of having him wear them anyway. The Cocks take on the NC State Wolfpack tonight on ESPN. Watch– but you better cheer for the Gamecocks.
We didn’t get season tickets this year because I wasn’t sure how many games I’d want to attend because of having a baby this year and because I hate the games when it’s still hot outside. I’m sorry. I think that literally makes me a fair weather fan, but my days of standing in Williams-Brice Stadium and nearly sweating to death are over for a while.
Gamecock football is one of Todd’s and my favorite things to do together, so we’re both really excited that this time of year has finally arrived. This will give us hours of entertainment until December! And hopefully all the way through Christmas and New Year’s if it’s a good season.
We are planning on making the trip to Tuscaloosa this year for the SC v. Alabama game, so I’d love to meet up with any of you in that area if you’ll be around.
2. A new season of Junior League kicked off last night, too. I saw a lot of people that I hadn’t seen in such a long time, but also ran into someone that I “know” but had never met before in person. One of my favorite readers– and the author of her own family blog– was just standing there and I knew it was her! She had a little girl 4 days before Hudson was born and she has been so encouraging to me. We’ve talked about meeting up, but haven’t had a chance to do it yet. I gave her a big hug and I can’t wait for our babies to play together when they get old enough to actually play!
3. Todd and I have been having lots of talks about doing something to our backyard. Maybe I’ll conclude Home Tour Tuesdays with a nice shot of our yucky backyard. The grass is sporadic and we have so many trees that it stays really muddy after a rain storm. I’d like to build a deck and then pour concrete to have a place for patio furniture, but leave enough grass for the dogs to play. Currently the space is only used as a doggy bathroom and I’d love for it to be one more area where we can live and play. Has anyone else tackled a backyard makeover?
4. I’m so excited for Labor Day weekend. We don’t have any plans, but with the game being on a Thursday this week, we really have three days of nothing! So nice! Todd typically doesn’t take off work for holidays like Memorial Day and Labor Day even if his workplaces observes the holiday. The man just likes to work. But he is going to be at home with us for three days. Maybe I can get a pedicure? Or see the new Jen Aniston movie by myself? I love seeing movies by myself! Love it! Anyone else enjoy this?
I have learned to like eating by myself. I used to have to bring along a book or a magazine to make it look a little less sad. But now I can go without the props. I do have my cell phone, though. Does that count as a prop?
5. I’m itching for a vacation! Even if just for a weekend. We’re going to Dallas next weekend to visit my family. Todd’s only staying for the weekend, but Hudson and I will stay for two weeks. We’ll drive to Louisiana and visit all of our family there and go to a Louisiana Tech (my alma mater) football game. The second full week will be spent just hanging out in Dallas with my family and friends and visiting with some of my favorite blog (more like real life) friends.
6. Hudson will be three months old on Saturday. What?! Where did the time go? I’ll give a full update on his milestones and activities on Saturday. He’s such a big boy!
7. I’ve had Flipping Out on all day long. I haven’t seen every minute of every episode because I’m obviously taking care of the bebe, but Jeff Lewis kills me. And I’m such a Jenny fan.
The end. I’m out of fun stuff to talk about– that’s assuming that you thought any of the above was, in fact, fun.

we might be down in tuscaloosa for that game! that would be great if we were. I’ll talk to rob and see what games we are going to
wow! you have a lot of great stuff going on! So glad you had such a great meeting and found someone you “knew”, how cool is that?! Good luck to your team in their game!! Hope you have a great night! = )
Dang, we move away from Mississippi and you visit Tuscaloosa! (Tuscaloosa proudly boasted the nearest Target to where we lived in Miss. I went there at least once a month….haha.)
I hear you on the family vacation! I need a beach and a book pronto, but I have a feeling that isn’t going to happen for a little while. All of our upcoming trips involve weddings or family gatherings.
It’s funny that you should mention that because I’ve always hated the concept of eating alone or going to the movies by myself…. but you know, I probably would enjoy it if I gave it a try and could get pass the idea of feeling like I’m lame being by myself… I think I just might have to try this!!!
Love solo movie time! JL season kicks off here in NYC next week…with a 3 hour meeting on Tuesday…
WOO HOO for Dallas Trip! We can’t wait for ya’ll to get here!
And I loooooove going to see movies and eating by myself – activities that I mastered during my 9 mo. stint of waitressing and bartending between college and law school – everyone else was at work or school during the day so I went on lots of “Kate Dates” by myself!
I love Flipping Out! Every season gets better and better. It seems babies show us just how fast time really goes. Have a great day!
I still haven’t conquered my fear of eating alone, but going to the movie by myself really isn’t bad! I’ve done it several times…and what’s funny is I used to assume that people at movies by themselves were just lonely! Ha!
Yay for football season!! LOVE it!! That two week trip sounds like it will be so fun!! Hubby and I have been thinking about going to Dallas one weekend soon.
I’m so super excited for football season! Me and my hubby have the best time entertaining at our house nearly every weekend…and usually steal a pair of my parents tickets so we can go to at least one home game.
The waiting list for OU season tickets is so long, we would probably be on it til we’re 70! lol! So I’ll just mooch off my parents for now.
haha!
Backyard project sounds fun but a lot of work. The deck will be nice! You’ll need a swingset before long, too!
I have to say that I’ve never gone to a movie by myself, but will try to do it sometime.
I adore going to movies by myself! I like alone time, but I still need reading material as my eating alone prop. That is so wonderful that in your new role you have the ability to visit with your family for such a long period. I’m sure Todd is sad though.
I hope you don’t mind- I linked to Weight Watchers Wednesday-http://spiceandsass.blogspot.com/2009/09/cooking-is-my-cardio.html
I live about 40 miles from Tuscaloosa. Hubby and I don’t have any tickets this year, but we will probably go down to a few games this year just to soak up the atmosphere, see if we can get cheap tickets, and watch the game at a bar on the Strip where a bunch of our friends work and give us free drinks. (c;
I love going to movies by myself. I can laugh and cry and not be self concious at all!
And, I would love to take on a backyard makeover as well. Our is a doggy bathroom as well. We never use it.
I know what you mean about those holidays – Chris doesn’t take them, either. Every day but Sunday and South Carolina football game times are work days! I have definitely learned to be a movie-by-myself kind of girl, and I enjoy it! I haven’t ventured into the eating-by-myself category, but I may have to give it a try one of these days.
I know you have tons of family and friends in Dallas, but if you have some spare time, I would love to meet for coffee…maybe Modern Eve could come, too!
I didn’t know you were a Gamecock fan! We played you last year at the Outback Bowl…I’m an Iowa grad and definite Hawkeye fan! We met some fun Gamecocks while we were in FL! Good luck tonight!
Good job with learning to eat on your own. That is one thing that I avoid at all costs, even skipping meals if necessary because I just canNOT stand to sit somewhere alone. It even makes me uncomfortable seeing other people doing it. Does this sound like I have a phobia?
do you remember the sex and the city episode where by the end carrie goes (prop free) to lunch alone? that made me think of that! love the movies alone as well…pretty much anything alone sounds better after a baby(Im such a loving mom, i know
…
I have always been scared to go to the movies by myself (no clue why) and I will eat by myself but not in resturants where you have a waiter or waitress and only with a “prop.” I like being by myself too so it is kind of weird…plus I always think people who do that are very cool!
I could comment on all of these but seriously, I LOVE Flipping Out. Jeff is hilarious and I, too, love Jenny. A fab show overall.
I also LOVE going to the movies by myself. Its so liberating to me for some reason! I haven’t done it in a long time though, maybe I will do so this weekend. Dying to see Julie & Julia and somehow I don’t think I’ll convince my husband to go with me!
oooooooooooh boy! soo happy i’ll get to see you again so soon. it really sucks when one of your best friends forever lives so far. {tear}.
i’m watching the gamecocks! in b/t cleaning, which i REALLY don’t want to do. and i don’t feel like cooking or eating dinner. i just want cupcakes. humph
I love love love eating by myself! I am not sure why. And sometimes I take props, but usually not. And even when I have props I’m not sure I utilize them very effectively.
Haven’t ever tried the movie thing by myself. My man does it all the time because I’m not big on theatres but maybe I’ll have to try it!
Listen here missy….ME encouraging YOU?!?!?!?!? Are you kidding?? You inspire me every day!!! I can’t wait for our precious angels to meet!!! I know they will be best of friends! Never too early to introduce my baby girl to a good ole’ Southern gentleman!!! I am so glad we got to meet!! CRAZY out of all those people there!! It was serendipitous at best!!!
xoxo, your leaguer sidekick
Hey we’re watching that game now! Love that college football is back – my husband and I LOVE that together time as well!
Junior League is underway for us as well – our first general meeting is Tuesday but I am a provisional so I have already been busy for too many hours.
Yay!! Go gamecocks–i am blogging during the commercials!
My husband and I had the same problem with our backyard so we decided to pour a patio with concrete, and then built deck-like railings around the patio with a little space between the patio and the railing so that i could plant flowers w/o the dogs sitting on them. We have a little gate so that we can go in and out, too. It really is such a nice place to enjoy tea/coffee in the morning and alfresco dinners!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE going to movies by myself! You get to pick the movie and no one argues about what you want to watch!
I love going to movies and eating out by myself too! I do always have my Blackberry when I eat out, though. I guess I use that to make me seem less “alone”.
Congrats on the Gamecock win.
I’m so excited that college football is back!
Flipping Out is one of my favorite shows – I love Jeff – so inappropriate, yet so hilarious.
Enjoy your weekend, whatever you end up doing!
I LOVE Jeff Lewis. I just want to follow him around all day and laugh, because he kills me.
Yay for college football! And enjoy your Labor Day staycation!
I watched the game last night, and it was great! I’m so glad that that they won last night, and I’m sure you guys are too! I love the football season too, and I’m so glad that it’s finally here!
Ahhhhh….I”m so excited that ya’ll are coming to a game!!! I can’t wait to see you and meet HUDSON!!!
Oh, and J. and I are wanting to extend our small patio so that we can have more “living space” in the backyard. We’ll see what will happen!
I’m obsessed with Star Design, lately I want to be an interior designer! I redid just my furniture this summer on the deck & now I have an outdoor living room. Make your backyard more of your living space- go for it! Now’s the perfect time to get furniture since everything will be on sale!
Hey Erin! I’ve been “stalking your blog!” Oopsie! But, now, I’m going to leave a comment! I live in Columbia too! I got married in April, and my husband (also an attorney!) and I bought a house and moved in about two weeks ago. I’m actually thinking of joining Junior League (I’ve put in an email to get some info on how to join) so maybe we’ll meet one day! I don’t have a blog, but I’m a darn good email-er!
That’s it for now. Maybe I’ll be a “regular commenter” from now on!!!
Movies & meals by yourself is a great thing, but definitely takes some getting used to. I still do the meals with a prop – usually a book in my case – but I’ve learned to truly appreciate them.
Smart you for holding off on season tickets this year; we bought them again for Texas this year, and I’m dreading those first few games of the year that are just too (expletive) hot. Fingers crossed that the cool forecast (which means 90 degrees here) becomes a reality!
How fun that you get some time in Dallas; would that I could get up there one of those weekends, but alas . . . in any event, you’ll have a blast with the Dallas bloggy crew & your family.
I’ve become addicted to Flipping Out while home on maternity leave. I’m going to have to DVR it when I go back to work. In 3 weeks! I’m starting to get sad already. Going to movies with my husband is a good date night for us, but I prefer and LOVE going to the movies by myself. I get to see what I want, buy a big bag of popcorn, arrive early enough for the previews (which my husband hates) and settle in for pure entertainment.
So fun! My sister and her husband live in Tuscaloosa and I have been dying to visit them, so Mr. Gamecock and I are definitely going to the game! Maybe we will see y’all there!
Yay for the Dallas trip! I have never been to a movie by myself. I might try it sometime!
I’ve yet to go to a movie by myself, but I might have to start since most of my friends never want to see the same movies as I do!!!
Good luck with the backyard makeover. We’ve been talking about doing the same for about 2 years. Talking is as far as we’ve gotten.
Have so much fun in Dallas! So jealous of ya’lls bloggy meetup!!! Can’t wait to see pictures!
