Jody Whitsell custom pet portraits

by Blue-Eyed Bride on October 29, 2009

Every time I go into my frame shop (HOFP Art Gallery)I am stopped dead in my tracks by the beautiful pet portraits that hang in the gallery. I always ooohhh and ahhh over them and wish that we could have one of our own. Well, I guess, two of our own for each of our beloved canines.

The artist is Jody Whitsell and her website is called Big Dawgz Squared. She sells prints, but her forte is custom pet portraits. You send her a photo of your pet and let her know what your preferred background color is, and she creates a magnificent masterpiece of your furry friend. These canvases are huge and are so striking.

The custom portraits aren’t cheap by any means, but they are stunning. Someday, after I’ve won the lottery and move into my dream house, I will have a room where one of these will fit in perfectly. Maybe it will be our media room or the office, but these pet portraits are absolutely stunning. Here are some examples of my favorites from Jody’s website.

I think these two guys deserve to have a painting of themselves on our wall!

Haha, looks like Fiona dunked her head in the water bowl. Love those pictures, the top middle looks a lot like my Abby.

For a short term pup portrait (although it’s not custom) you should check out http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5578133 I have bought a golden one from them that looks just like my pup, and a yellow lab for a friend. They’re numbered prints, super affordable, and adorable! Gotta have artwork representing the pups!

Gosh, Boudreaux is just so pretty, and Fiona is so cute. I think these portraits are a good idea, I don’t know if I could ever talk the hubs into it. I can’t even talk him into getting a dog right now!

Those are cute! My mom gets her hair cut by Proctor at Devine Fashions and Flowers (on Devine next door to the fire station and the new Granville’s). He also paints dog portraits and other animals and has won awards at the oh so classy state fair. My dad bought one of our yellow lab Henry and gave it to my mom for Christmas a couple of years ago. Henry died this summer but it looks EXACTLY like him! I mean it captures his expression to a tee! It’s amazing and my mom is so glad that she has it (hanging in our den haha)!
