ask me anything

by Blue-Eyed Bride on January 7, 2010

It’s cold here today. It’s cold everywhere, I know. And we are bundled up inside. I’ve got a busy couple of days around the house, so I thought I’d do a couple of question and answer days here on Blue-Eyed Bride.

I did this a couple of times before and it was a lot of fun answering your questions.

question-mark

Just leave me a comment and ask me whatever you want. I’ll answer the questions on Friday and Monday. It can be about being a mom, Hudson, home decor and maintenance, weddings, fashion, whatver you want.

So ask away!

Why are we always on the same wavelength?

I think we really are twins.

So my question, when are you going to come to Dallas and take me clothes shopping? You know I can’t dress myself.

2 Natasha January 7, 2010 at 1:32 pm

You said that you had troubles with childbirth? What happened? Also, do you plan on having more children?

3 SouthernBelleJM January 7, 2010 at 1:41 pm

How tall are you? I know that’s a weird question, but I always wonder how tall people are.

4 Tiffany January 7, 2010 at 1:41 pm

What is your housework routine? Are there certain days you perform certain tasks at home or just whenever they need to be done? Do you do all of your laundry at once or daily? You just seem so organized and your house looks so clean in all of your pictures. I need your tips

5 prettyandwitty January 7, 2010 at 1:42 pm

What is your favorite part of being a mom to adorable Hudson? How has your relationship with your husband changed since having a child?

6 Jessica January 7, 2010 at 1:42 pm

What are a few “staple” items you would recommend to add to your wedding registry? Any unnecessary items you wish you had left off of your registry?

7 Hayley January 7, 2010 at 1:42 pm

Do you ever have bad days…when Hudson is difficult or you an TC argue? You always seem to have it together, very inspiring. Please tell me you have bad days :-)

8 Eve January 7, 2010 at 1:43 pm

Erin-I love reading your blog…I’m not sure how I first stumbled upon it, but it’s definitely one of my daily reads. I am so excited to be able to ask you a question!

Our engagement pictures did NOT turn out well, and I’m nervous about how our wedding pictures will look. You have so many fantastic photographs–I actually emailed your photographer asking if she had our date available, and she didn’t:-(. However, I’m wondering whether or not you sat down with her and talked about shots you wanted on your big day-or did she just know to do them? The pictures I’ve seen from your wedding are so beautifully composed that I can’t help wanting to have some shots be similar at mine. Let me know if it was just Kelly Moore’s great style, or if you gave her direction in what you wanted. Thanks!

p.s. I’m a Carolina Herrera/Manolo Blahnik bride, too! My shoes are silver…I really wanted something I could wear after the wedding, so refused to go with ivory.

9 Maureen January 7, 2010 at 1:45 pm

How many children do you want to have?

Was there anything you wish you could have changed or done differently at your wedding?

What are some things you are looking forward to wearing in the spring?

10 amy January 7, 2010 at 1:45 pm

i’ve recently had a career change and am very interested in the potential of doing some wedding planning. any tips on how to get started? a cousin of mine is getting married this summer and has asked me to help her with planning her ceremony. i know experience is a great place to start but where to go from there? also, best resources you would recommend?

11 Laura January 7, 2010 at 1:46 pm

What are some of your favorite blogs to visit? Friends and people you don’t know.

12 melissa January 7, 2010 at 1:46 pm

I love Q &A! Here are a few you might want to answer:

As a new mom, any advice to offer someone {me} throwing a baby shower for a friend? What did you love about your shower or what would you have liked?

Do you have time to watch television? If so, what are your favorite programs?

What are your favorite pair of shoes?

13 Daisy January 7, 2010 at 1:49 pm

Did you make a wedding album of photos or stick to framed shots around the house. If you DID make an album- did you go through your photographer, a separate graphic artist, or do you own online? If so, any hints, tips or suggestions? I’m a little overwhelmed with my 3000+ photos, the choices & the costs!

14 Rachel January 7, 2010 at 1:52 pm

Great idea!

How and when did you get involved in Junior League? What do you love most about it?

15 Ris January 7, 2010 at 1:53 pm

Do you want to go back to work? If so, what do you think you’d want to do?

16 Danica January 7, 2010 at 1:55 pm

How did you know TC was the one for you and that you wanted to spend the rest of your life with him? :)

17 Laura January 7, 2010 at 1:55 pm

I’ve got 2 questions!

1. How did you and TC meet?

2. Did you end up selling your wedding dress or did you decide to keep it?

18 Shasta January 7, 2010 at 1:56 pm

I would love, love, love info on moving a blog to it’s own .com from blogger. I desp need to do this, I have been dreaming of making the “big move”, I just need to learn how to do it!

19 Megan January 7, 2010 at 1:57 pm

I know we talk on twitter an gchat, so I feel like I know your routine with baby Hud, but as someone who is terrified of having children (moi) can you give a little insight on what your daily routines are with him? Xoxo- meg :)

20 Paige January 7, 2010 at 1:59 pm

Do you and TC have names already picked out for your future kids (assuming you want more kids)? Hudson is such an adorable name!

21 Samma January 7, 2010 at 2:04 pm

Hmmm, what is your favorite food/meal?

22 Kiersten January 7, 2010 at 2:14 pm

Now that you’ve transitioned to be a SAHM, what does an average day in your life look like? Have you met a community of other moms that you can interact with (playgroups, etc.)? Do you ever feel lonely or isolated? I ask because I would love to be a SAHM at least part-time, if not full-time, to my future children, but one of my fears about it is feeling isolated.

(Also, I accidentally posted this question on your About Erin page… sorry about that! I was on this page and then must have accidentally clicked the About Erin tab, walked away for a few minutes, and then posted the question without looking at what page I was on. Just FYI in case you wonder why you have a random question on there!)

I love your blog! Thanks for sharing!

23 liane January 7, 2010 at 2:18 pm

I have a lot of friends who are moms to young kids and as a single gal, I want to be as supportive a friend I can, but I never know what the right thing to say or do is.
I have no idea what goes on in a day where you are at home caring for a child, as opposed to being in an office all day, so usually I don’t say a word and just let them vent… but is there anything people have said to you to encourage you or pick you up that you really appreciated, and wouldn’t mind sharing with us clueless single gals?
Thanks

24 Jenny January 7, 2010 at 2:22 pm

I love your blog! It is such a fun read! What are your favorite wedding planning websites?

25 Kate January 7, 2010 at 2:23 pm

Hi Erin! I LOVE your blog! It was actually one of the first blogs that I started to read and continues to be my favorite : ) I really liked your recent post about your reading goals for this year. What is your favorite book of all time, or what is your favorite character from a book and why?

26 Jesslee January 7, 2010 at 2:24 pm

I know you had help from Mr. & Mrs. Mojito but I’m curious how you went about changing to a .com? Also, I’m debating on moving back to a “small town” life in KY or staying where we currently are in KCMO, what do you miss most about your hometown and what do you love about your new hometown?

27 Ally January 7, 2010 at 2:27 pm

Where did you/do you get your great fashion and design sense? You always look so polished and your home is stunning (you know I’m obsessed with your house!).

28 Gracie Beth January 7, 2010 at 2:28 pm

I was wondering if you could recommend any budget fashion staples since I am a college student and love the products you often mention but cannot afford them right now! I have been reading your blog over a year! I love it!

29 MMW January 7, 2010 at 2:29 pm

Erin, I’d love to know what you do to keep your face glowing – your hair so healthy & shiny – and your figure so trim. You look like the picture of a happy healthy mom. And I’d love to glow too.

30 Heather January 7, 2010 at 2:45 pm

I remember you got a David Yurman ring for your push present. I am huge fan of David Yurman. So on that lines:
What is your favorite piece of jewelry you own, other than your wedding ring?

31 Abbey January 7, 2010 at 2:48 pm

What are your favorite jeans?

I always wore gap jeans until a friend gave me (I know!) a pair of Sevens, and I was hooked on the ‘designer’ jeans.

Now my favorite kind are Hudsons. Do you have any brands that seem to fit well? I recently lost a ton of baby weight and happy weight, and I’m frustrated that jeans are still hard to find!

32 Sarah January 7, 2010 at 2:56 pm

Hey Erin! I have been blogging since 2007 but just made my blog public the end of last year. I have a two and a half month old little boy and was ready to share my adventures with the world. My question is how did you build a blog following? I have no idea where to even start trying to get my name out there.

33 Lauren Kelly January 7, 2010 at 3:17 pm

Where is the one place you and your husband would like to travel to but haven’t gotten to go to yet???

And what was it in your genes that made Hudson so doggone cute?????? :)

34 imjustbeachy January 7, 2010 at 3:22 pm

What is your favorite “diet” food?

35 Jessica January 7, 2010 at 3:32 pm

I’ll echo Kiersten: As a future SAHM, I’m wondering how the transition has been. Do you feel like your days are full? Do you feel challenged? Do you have other adults to interact with? I’m really looking forward to being home with my future children, but I’m wondering how those things work out. THANKS! love your blog.

36 Candace January 7, 2010 at 3:47 pm

What are your tips for being a stay at home mom?

37 Kelly January 7, 2010 at 3:59 pm

Hi Erin! I haven’t talked to you in forever but thought I would go ahead and ask some baby specific questions in case any other new moms need the same advice.

1. Any tips on how you got Hudson to sleep through the night (7a-7p)? Kate and Lily go to bed at 7a and wake up at 4a to eat. Then they go back to sleep at 5 a and wake up for good at 7a. If I could only get them to sleep 3 more hours it would be perfect! They are 3 1/2 months now and 12 pounds so didn’t know if you had any suggestions. I might be wishful thinking and this might just be how it’s going to be for our girls.

2. Any websites pertaining to babies that you check religiously? Ex. What to expect, Baby Center, etc.

3. You did a product review probably around when Hudson was 3 months. I would love to read another product review now that Hudson is out of the swing, bouncy seat, etc and into toys and other stuff.

Hope you’re doing well and we would love to see you next time you’re in Dallas. Maybe we could introduce the babies!

38 Sally January 7, 2010 at 4:14 pm

Do you make money on this blog? How? If so.

39 April January 7, 2010 at 4:31 pm

Since most people ask about favorites; what’s your LEAST favorite holiday?

You mentioned New Years – will you share a little bit more?? :)

40 Becky January 7, 2010 at 4:37 pm

okay-I’m gonna ask something I sort of asked the other day. Where do you like to baby clothes shop, whether it be online or in store and what are your favorite brands of baby clothing?

41 Sarah January 7, 2010 at 4:38 pm

Hi Erin! I love your blog and read it everyday! I found Blue Eyed Bride because I found a picture of your candy buffet from your wedding reception online! It’s my inspiration for my wedding, which is approaching fast, June 19 2010 to be exact! So, I was just wondering how many people you had at your reception and how much candy you bought? Did you have a lot of candy left? Was it available the whole reception or was it set up at a later time in the evening? I am expecting to have about 170 people at our wedding so any help would be great! Thank you so much for being such a great inspiration!

42 Sherry January 7, 2010 at 4:42 pm

How fun! I’m sure you’ve mentioned this but I probably missed it. I know your a SAHM now what did you do before you had Hudson? Was it wedding planning?

43 Mrs. SB January 7, 2010 at 4:57 pm

Oh, fun! :) What is your favorite wedding portrait, and why?

44 Cee January 7, 2010 at 5:15 pm

I love these kind of posts!

I have two…the first I saw someone else asked but I have been wondering about it too (ever since I once stalked your wedding posts)…Did you end up selling your wedding dress?

The other is just random…What is the best vacation you have been on/what was your favorite vacation?

45 Amy January 7, 2010 at 5:18 pm

What are your favorite places to eat and shop in Columbia?

46 Elisabeth A January 7, 2010 at 5:24 pm

Hi Erin! I recently stumbled across your blog and thought it was funny we live in the same town. I had a boy in October and I really love Hudson’s clothes. Do you buy them locally or online? I would love to hear where you find his things.

47 Rachel January 7, 2010 at 5:37 pm

I am with a few others, how’d you meet TC? I’d love to hear the story :)

Also, I’m gonna ask you what I asked Mojito Maven. Your home and clothes are always so nice and cute! Do you save for this stuff? If so, any tips? We don’t struggle financially, but I have a hard time saving for big things, especially stuff like furniture.

48 Kayleigh January 7, 2010 at 5:42 pm

Hi!

I am a long time reader of your blog…I just love it! I have a legal internship in Columbia this summer…do you have any ideas on fun things to do, or good restaurants I must try while I am there? Thanks!

49 carolina girl January 7, 2010 at 5:44 pm

What is your favorite wine (if you drink wine)? I’m trying to start up a good collection. :)

50 Brooke January 7, 2010 at 7:20 pm

I read a ton of Blogs and yours is my Fav. I get super excited about new posts. Okay I had my first baby
Oct 16 and have to return to work on Monday. Please tell me why you love being a SAMH? Did you make any cutbacks? Where you scarded to leave your job?

51 julia January 7, 2010 at 7:24 pm

um, I’m afraid to ask what your version of ‘cold’ is. That is all:)

52 Reaves Pinson January 7, 2010 at 7:35 pm

LOVE your blog! I am an avid reader and have gotten several friends hooked as well!
I was just curious as to how you handle being so far away from your family. I know it must be hard! Also, is Todd’s family in Columbia and if so, how do you handle his family being close. As a newlywed living in the same town as my in-laws but far away from my own parents, it gets tricky! I can only imagine how hard it will be when I start my own family. Just curious if you had any insight on your family dynamics!
Thanks!

53 Chas January 7, 2010 at 7:39 pm

We’ve chatted on gmail and I actually had some questions to ask you, but I felt psycho! So I’m sitting here nodding my head on all of the questions already asked about being a SAHM and your home decor & personal style. But I will add a few more to the mix!

I want to be a SAHM when the time comes but I stress out when I think about the fact that my income won’t be coming in anymore! What things were the most difficult to cut back on, and which were the easiest?

Your house is so adorable while still looking grown-up. How do you find decor and accessories to fit your style?

I really loved when you posted about your clothes and outfits. Will you post more of these in the future?

What is your favorite “everyday indulgence” while you still stay healthy? I recently discovered dried figs; they are like candy.

How is your running going? Ready for your races this year? = )

54 Mackenzie January 7, 2010 at 8:25 pm

Hi, I really enjoy your blog! It is beautiful and just so simple! I would love to know where you get your bedding, I really like your style! Where did you go to college and how did it decide it was the right place for you? Thanks!

55 Sarah H. January 7, 2010 at 8:29 pm

Sorry if someone already asked these–I didn’t read the ones above me. First—what do you think are maybe the top 3 or 5 things to get someone for a baby shower?

And….How did you meet your husband? How long did you date? Just curious :)

56 Erin January 7, 2010 at 8:53 pm

As a fellow Erin, what is your middle name? And what sort of names do people incorrectly call you over the phone, email (probably either telemarketers or working world emails.) :)

57 Kassie January 7, 2010 at 9:28 pm

I love Q&A posts! It’s so much fun to find out about bloggers.

I have a random, for fun question: if your house was on fire, what 5 things would you run out the door with? Humans and pets not counting! :)

58 Tracey @ Tropical Happiness January 7, 2010 at 9:41 pm

I second the question about how you handle finances to be a SAHM. I don’t mean WHAT your finances are, but how you made the decision to eliminate your salary from the mix.

Also, were you and your husband on the same page as to WHEN to have children? I see so many women who are ready, but their husbands aren’t quite there (especially when they are within a year of the same age). Did you and your hubby discuss this before marriage? :)

Love love love your blog!!!

59 Emily January 7, 2010 at 9:46 pm

You always have such pretty clear skin. If I even get slightly stressed out I break out, which I think is totally unfair for a 23 year old. What kind of skin care products do you use?

60 Katie B. January 7, 2010 at 9:49 pm

What a great idea! I love reading your blog and am so sorry for not commenting more often.

But, I’d love to hear more about your SAHM experience/advice. I would love to stay home someday, not sure when though. Now that I have 2 little ones (26 mo & 5 mo) I am scared to. Not very confident I would be a good SAHM. Not sure why I think my au pair can do a better job????

Also, your house is beautiful and so put together. Where do you get your inspiration? Any ideas for those of us doing it on our own?

61 Rachel January 7, 2010 at 10:26 pm

What a fun idea! After recently stalking your wedding posts and ideas. I have one kind of fun (i hope) question. What are your favorite colors for weddings? Have you made any color boards recently? What do you think about purple and red (my faves)? How do you feel about making an inspiration board for those colors?? hehe. I just love your style and ideas! Sorry I know that was like three questions?!?!

62 Maggie January 7, 2010 at 10:34 pm

So many good questions! Can’t wait to see which ones you answer. I always love reading your blog.

1. So when do you and Todd plan on having another child? How close together would you like to them to be?

2. You mentioned possibly moving or renovating recently. We constantly are debating that as we run out of space. We love the charm but are sick of maintenance and I think that another renovation would be the death of me. If you moved would you buy another older house or move to a newer house?

3. What are you favorite beauty products?

63 heather hooks January 7, 2010 at 11:09 pm

How’s the running going?!

64 Britain @ Simply Sothern January 7, 2010 at 11:10 pm

I love reading your blog, as fellow Alpha Chi- shared it with me, and now it is a daily read.. As someone fairly new to the blogging world how do/did you go about increasing your blog following?

are you involved with the chapter/alum chapter near you?

65 Catherine January 7, 2010 at 11:43 pm

sister, my question(s) to you are 1. when can the BOSSisters have another weekend together? we are going to have to get on the ball and really make this happen + malain, too. why-oh-why is there such thing as geography! i mean, we all love to travel. but not see my sisters! and 2. if you had to pick ONE song that brings you back to our cola (or college) days together, what would it be, and what were we doing? NO you can’t pick sangria wine! love you. give huddy a hug from his aunt’y’ :)

66 Candace January 8, 2010 at 10:13 am

Thank you for sharing all the stories and Hudson…your little boy is adorable!!

So, my question is, what are your favorite baby brands for boys?? I have 6 month old twins and always in the market for cute baby wear…I have a two year old daughter and felt like I had a much easier time with her…so I am struggling with finding things I love for the boys!

Also, on a complete different subject…how long have you been blogging and how did you build such an amazing community…I just started and I am curious how to build it because I love the interaction and suggestions of making “blog” friends…

Again, thanks for sharing!!

67 Es January 8, 2010 at 10:30 am

1. What’s your favorite brunch recipe?

2. Do you think you’ll go back to work once your kids are all in school? And if so, will you want to do the same job or is there something else you might consider doing?

68 Blair January 8, 2010 at 10:36 am

Next time you come to Ruston, will you come over and we can organize my house as nicely as yours is?

Oh, and I’m kinda with Catherine, but on a bigger scale….we need an AXO reunion with all of our group that used to hang out! All of the BOSS sisters included….let’s try and plan something for Homecoming! I miss the good ole’ college days!

69 Maggie P January 8, 2010 at 11:19 am

I absolutely love the photos that Tracy Turpen did of your family! I looked at her website, and I am blown away! How did you find her? I am looking for a photographer in the Raleigh, NC area to do some pics this summer, and I am having the hardest time. I am spoiled now that I have seen Tracy’s photos! If you could give me any tips on finding a photographer, I would REALLY appreciate it.

70 Emily January 8, 2010 at 11:37 am

What were your favorite maternity items, anything you recommend that a newly pregnant girl purchase?
For medical reasons, my doctor is pushing me toward a scheduled, elective c-section, even now at 11 weeks. Would you be willing to talk to me about your experience over e-mail so that I might have a better set of reasons for making that choice?

71 Nicole January 8, 2010 at 12:39 pm

My question is if you ever receive any negative comments on your blog and how you handle them? I struggle with making our blog private and leaving it open because very rarely i will get a weird annonymous comment that is border-line rude. Does this ever happen to you?

72 Tracey @ Tropical Happiness January 8, 2010 at 1:57 pm

Btw, are you an Alpha Chi Omega??? I thought I saw AXO in one of the comments. Me tooooo! :)

73 sandy January 8, 2010 at 2:56 pm

I’m also a new fan of yours (I think it came through the recommended blogs on the my google reader). My husband and I are hoping to move to a larger home as we plan to start trying for a baby soon…and I am planning to be a SAHM (yes!)…so I have a few questions about that:

1. What does your average day/week look like as a SAHM?
2. What are the things you purchased to get ready for the baby and what is worth spending extra money on and what is not really worth splurging on?
3. How did you start the process of furnishing/decorating for your new home? We’re in a very small condo now with minimal furniture that we will replace when we move into a bigger house and I’m overwhelmed at the thought of having to buy new furniture for every room. How long did it take and any tips? I’ve been googling “average cost to furnish home” so I can get an idea of how much we’ll be spending…I really have no idea how much things like window coverings cost…

74 Lulu Forever January 8, 2010 at 3:46 pm

I love your blog! I was curious if you are selling any of your maternity clothes? I am in need of some chic expecting mommy style and didn’t know if you would consider parting with your trendy mommy threads?

You are an inspiration to an expecting mommy!

75 Jessica January 8, 2010 at 4:39 pm

What are some of your favorite hostess gifts? I know you’ve mentioned candles before, but I’d love some other suggestions as well!

I echo the comment earlier regarding wedding color schemes…I like too many colors and can’t seem to pick anything yet!

76 Allison January 8, 2010 at 4:42 pm

How do you get things done? That is a very vague question, but I mean do you have a to-do list and tackle things one at a time? Or just a general idea in your head of things you need to do this week? What keeps you motivated? I had been thinking of questions for a bit, but finally came up with some good ones! I’m excited to see your responses to the other questions!

77 Caroline January 8, 2010 at 5:04 pm

First off, LOVE rosso…I get this shrimp/pasta dish, that is AMAZING!

Do you think y’all will stay in the Shandon area or move to the suburbs eventually? It’s something that I constantly think about even though I don’t have kids yet. All of our friends live downtown…but I would prefer my kids to go to school in the area I grew up in.

78 liz January 8, 2010 at 5:34 pm

I saw that you wrote about having a breast reduction, what made you want that?

79 Kappa Prep January 8, 2010 at 5:47 pm

I would love to hear about your wedding registry! What is your formal china pattern and your silver pattern?

80 Desiree January 8, 2010 at 5:50 pm

I think I may have noticed on twitter (maybe?) that you’re going to the Carrie Underwood concert in May (me too!)…so here’s my question. Who else would you love to see in concert?

81 Cam January 8, 2010 at 6:06 pm

What would be your dream job (other than being a SAHM :) ?

Love all these questions!

82 Joey January 8, 2010 at 7:29 pm

First of all, thanks for all your amazing posts! It is definitely one of my daily reads! I’m an AXO too and didn’t realize you were too until I read some of these questions! Here’s mine:

I love love love your gallery wall! I have wanted to start one in our home but as soon as I start I get overwhelmed by the amount of pictures, options, keeping it updated, etc.? How did you narrow it down? Did you start small and grow or hang them all at once? Also how frequently do you update the wall?

83 Kara January 8, 2010 at 10:38 pm

First, I LOVE your blog!!!! You have so many fun ideas and have such incredible taste!!! I especially loved looking at your home decor! My questions are 1.) Where did you get the amazing piece of furniture that is in your living room that is below your TV? I am currently looking for something unique yet classy… just like that!, and 2.) I live in Dallas, and I have read your family lives here… do you have any home decor shops (or any shops really) that you just love to visit when you are in Dallas?
(PS- I LOVE your photo gallery wall & plan on starting one like it!!!)

Thanks so much for the ideas!!!!!
Happy New Year!

84 Judy January 9, 2010 at 10:32 am

Where are all the answers to the questions? I too am curious to know what happened healthwise during our delivery… as well as the answers to all the other questions!!! You’re a great SAHM mom….so positive and motivated. Keep up the good work!

85 Brittany January 9, 2010 at 11:14 am

If you could host your own show, what would it be about? (talk show, design, wedding, etc)

86 Jennifer January 9, 2010 at 11:46 am

Describe to me what a typical day is for you and Hudson? What do you do to keep him entertained? How do you handle housework, projects, cooking? How much TV time do you allow him? I let Bobby (who is 8 months) watch about an hour a day of either Nick Jr. or Baby Einstein. Do you wake up at the same time each day, or is Hudson your alarm clock?

I always wonder what other SAHM’s do (that have kids my son’s age)! :)

Also, sorry to hear about your family pup passing. It is so sad, they are truly like children.

Ok, so as another multiple pet owner, how do you keep your house so clean?! I struggle everyday to do at least one room and I feel like I still keep up. Also, now that you have Hudson, how do the dogs play out in your family dynamic? I’m kind of nervous about that one…

I think that’s enough.. =)

When did Hudson start to sleep through the night/go down at 7pm on a regular basis? I have a 3 month old that I’m just starting to try to get on a schedule…any tips? Thanks in advance!
