weekend recap

by Blue-Eyed Bride on August 29, 2010

We had a pretty eventful, fun-filled weekend. TC was really productive around the house, Hudson did lots of playing and talking, and we had a little bit of fun.

  • Our “pet” spider that has been living in our kitchen window is now being fondly referred to as “Peter Parker.” TC started calling the spider Peter Parker on Friday night. Peter Parker was very busy on Friday night and was moving all over the place. When we woke up on Saturday morning, it was confirmed that Peter Parker is, in fact, female. And she was also pregnant! I knew it! And I told y’all there was a baby boom going on. Check out Peter Parker’s little egg sack. I know it’s icky, but we have really been fascinated by this spider’s activities.

  • I helped organize a Christmas music kick-off for our choir. We had a Christmas-themed party on Friday night and it was a lot of fun. I’m not ready to rush the season, but it was fun to forget that it’s really hot outside for just a little while! We started rehearsing some of the music this weekend and I just love it.
  • I built Hudson’s first “fort” out of a big quilt (my Alpha Chi Omega tee shirt quilt) and four chairs on Saturday morning. He absolutely loved it and really liked running out from under it and running back in. Pay no attention to the mix and match pajamas. Sometimes we just don’t have a clean set!

  • I have a dental appointment tomorrow and I’ve been nervous about it for a week. Not because I think anything will be wrong, but because I just can’t stand to sit there for an hour with the hygienist’s hand in my mouth.
  • I got sucked in to the Emmy Awards and the pre-show red carpet tonight. I absolutely love award shows and the Emmy Awards are probably my favorite. Why? Because I love TV, obviously. You all should be watching Glee, Modern Family, Mad Men, and Damages! And all of the terrible reality television shows, too!
  • We splurged after church this morning and actually went out to eat. We always go home because Hudson is so tired after being in the nursery that we are afraid to risk eating at a restaurant. But we took the risk this morning and went to DiPratos. It’s a great deli right down the street from our house and they have the best brunch. And Hudson did great!
  • Go on over to Book Beginnings and Bookends today to get the discussion questions and link up your blog for The Secret Life of CeeCee Wilkes in the morning!

Is it hit or miss with your Hudson at restaurants?! Because it sure is with mine!! One day he will do great & sit in the highchair the entire meal. The next time we go, he’s ready to get down 10 minutes into sitting down. Not fun when that happens because nobody really enjoys their meal!!

2 smile steady August 29, 2010 at 10:25 pm

We hygienists get no love!

Hudson is getting cuter by the day! I loved the days of forts!

3 The Boob Nazi August 29, 2010 at 10:41 pm

That spider looks terrifying. I am traumatized by it.

4 candace August 29, 2010 at 10:42 pm

Oh my gosh! For some reason spider babies REALLY creep me out!!!!

5 Rachel August 29, 2010 at 10:45 pm

That spider is craaaaazy! I would be intrigued but freaked out by her big time.

Also, if feel ya on the dentist. I would much rather visit the gynecologist over the dentist. I absolutely hate going.

6 Wendy @ A Southern Accent August 29, 2010 at 10:50 pm

That spider is gross. Nevertheless, maybe you should now call her Patty Parker instead of Peter.

7 Heather Allen August 29, 2010 at 11:08 pm

I am an Alpha Chi alum as well! Yay!

8 Andrea August 29, 2010 at 11:26 pm

Alpha Chi Omega fort!! I love it!! I never knew we were sisters in the bond haha! My bf and I were just in Columbia and I had to go into the greek store and look at all of the AXO stuff, what a small world!!

9 Jen August 29, 2010 at 11:38 pm

Hudson is so adorable..he looks like you in those pics! Spiders kinda ick me out, but I guess PP is sorta fascinating!

10 SouthernBelleJM August 29, 2010 at 11:46 pm

oh my wow, does PP have a yellowish bright green color? if so, my bff’s little sister has the same exact type spider outside her kitchen window. it has spun a huge web, and it’s a female too!!!

11 Miss M! August 30, 2010 at 12:22 am

Oh my goodness – how big is that thing actually because it looks HUGE in the photo! I agree with the person who said spider babies are icky. They’re SO much creepier than an actual full sized spider!!!

12 Brenda August 30, 2010 at 8:57 am

I am one of the crazy people that actually like the dentist. I love to get my teeth cleaned!

13 Teresa August 30, 2010 at 10:48 am

My spider has an egg sac too. I am a little nervous about how many baby spiders I am going to have running around…it is right outside my bedroom window!

14 Mrs. R August 30, 2010 at 11:34 am

Girl you have me itching over here! I am just imagining all the baby spiders that will spill out of that! You are so kind, I would have told my husband to remove anything that look like a web outside of my window.

15 Kelly August 30, 2010 at 12:30 pm

I have the same exact spinder outside my front porch that has spun a nasty web for itself with what looks to be a “zipper” going down it. There is not egg sac yet but maybe that’s coming.
It’s pretty gross but we are all entertained by it, as well.

16 Vee August 30, 2010 at 2:09 pm

I just went to the dentist today too! Ugh, hate it!!!!!

Also, that egg sack is going to give me NIGHTMARES!

17 Maggie @ Living the Life of Riley August 30, 2010 at 2:44 pm

Your spider scares the cr*p out of me. Have you seen arachnaphobia? That is what that spider reminds me of.

My son is going to be three in October and forts made of quilts still have not grown old for him. That is one of our favorite “its too blazing hot to play outside” activities! The whole out to eat thing will probably get easier. Mac got easier with that as he got closer to two. Now it is just the norm that we got to lunch after church and he expects it. His nap starts later now than it used to though.

18 Newlywed and Decorating August 30, 2010 at 6:35 pm

Can’t believe it’s time to prepare for Christmas already! Time flies! I hate going to the dentist too – no fun!

19 Tara August 30, 2010 at 7:08 pm

First, that spider is scary. Second, the egg sac is worse. Third, you’re a saint for keeping it around for so long. I would’ve made my husband take that thing down a long time ago. :)

Love Modern Family! Didn’t watch the Emmy’s because we were trying to get our girls to sleep, but I love watching the E! Red Carpet shows that they do with big award shows. Joan Rivers and all.

Hudson’s hair cut is too cute!

20 Ashley @ According to Ashley August 30, 2010 at 7:13 pm

AHHHH – That spider is SO HUGE. She would have been dead a long time ago if she lived anywhere near our house. And in other news, we like to name creatures that live in our house, too. My hubby likes to name everything “Earl.” Earl the mosquito, Earl the spider, Earl the little lizard…..You get the point.

21 Britain @ Simply Southern girl August 30, 2010 at 11:35 pm

i love love my tshirt quilt.. i need to get it out more often

and the spider.. ekkk.. scares me..

22 Katie August 31, 2010 at 10:09 am

Who made your quilt? I love it! I have to get my sorority/college quilt made too, but don’t know where to get it made. Please pass on the contact information!

23 Courtney August 31, 2010 at 3:02 pm

Looks like Hudson LOVED his first fort! He’s got such a happy face in the pictures. I don’t know how you can have that spider in your window. I know she’s a mama-to-be and all, but I couldn’t handle it.

24 Mandy August 31, 2010 at 9:37 pm

Another AXO here! :) LOVE your t shirt quilt. I have my shirts set aside to have them made into a quilt. One of these days I will get around to doing it….

25 Kara September 1, 2010 at 1:31 am

Have you called the pest control people yet? Maybe you’re kinder to all creatures than I am, but how many hundreds of baby spiders are going to come out of that thing? You’re a brave woman to be fascinated by it rather than getting the professionals on the phone STAT. :)

26 Tiffany September 1, 2010 at 7:55 am

Love the quilt! Who made it?

27 Stacia Carlucci September 1, 2010 at 9:32 am

Spider is very scary. There will be hundreds of babies that come out of that thing and then will be all over your yard and home. I would get rid of it ASAP…..spider bites are not fun and you dont know who might be allergic. I know you have probably thought of all of that and have reasons for not disposing of PP but ……

28 Christine September 1, 2010 at 10:07 am

oh my gosh I used to love building forts like that! I saw on etsy one time someone was selling table fort blankets that make it look like the outside of a house with windows and flowerbeds, it looked like too much fun!

29 Christine September 1, 2010 at 10:09 am

oh here it is – http://www.etsy.com/search_results.php?search_query=table+fort&search_type=handmade

they have ones for little boys now! If only I could sew I’d be making these for sure!

30 Courtney Crocker September 1, 2010 at 2:49 pm

Hudson is sooo adorable! And that spider would freak me out- I don’t know how you can look it all the time. Too bad it’s not closer to halloween… it would be a great decoration!!

31 Denise September 3, 2010 at 10:27 am

I just noticed that a big spider (not as large as yours) has taken up residence outside my bedroom window! Must be that time of year . . but is freaking me out.
