1. So, girls, my rings have never really fit. I mean they really don’t fit now because I gained 40 pounds and am still holding onto a lot of water weight in my hands and face. But even when I’m not pregnant my rings are snug. I think I was having a skinny day when I got fitted for my ring back before we got engaged.
They always feel tight in the summer time and TC could tell you a story about me trying to tug on my ring on a hot day in the middle of Chicago that almost ended tragically. But, anyway…
I took my rings with me to my parents’ house and one day they fit! They went on so easily! But guess what. They wouldn’t come off. So I decided to just sleep in them and try the next day. The next day, after about an hour of soaking my finger in ice water (to make it smaller), spraying it with Windex (a suggestion from a Twitter friend), using liquid soap and Aquafor, my finger just got more and more swollen. And it almost started bleeding from all the tugging!
I found a jeweler who said they could cut them off for me with the little ring saw. Super sad. Look at my tragic finger after he cut the rings off.
My rings are currently being repaired and resized and I should have them back in two weeks.
2. My sweet Hazer is smiling! It started a little over a week ago and he does most of his smiling first thing in the morning. We had a pretty good night of sleep last night and he was just so happy this morning and wouldn’t stop smiling or cooing. I can’t believe he has already reached this milestone. Time goes so quickly!
3. Hudson had a great time at my parents’ house. We all did, but Hudson is at such a fun age where we can do really fun things. He played outside in the baby pool. We went to the Indianapolis Children’s Museum and he had such a great time. He woke up the morning we got back asking for KK and Poppie. Fortunately, we’ll see them again soon! I think 2 is such a fun age– a challenging age– but a really fun age!

Hey, y'all, I'm Erin. Thanks for stopping by! I'm a Believer, a boy mom and former event planner turned stay-at-home mom. I blog about our lives, my family, my faith, fun finds, and kitchen disasters. You can read more on my 'About' page

Erin, the pics of Hudson laughing and smiling so big take me back! It is such a fun age, I don’t understand why the phrase “terrible 2′s” was coined. I agree that 2 year olds suddenly know how to do everything it seems, so that does bring on new challenges, but there was nothing terrible about it for us. I am so sorry to hear about your ring troubles, we made sure that my ring was a little bit loose because I tend to hold water in my face and hands as well (so glam, right?) — anyway, I hope when your ring gets back to you that it fits comfortably!
Oh my, I am so sorry about your ring! I am glad you could get it off. Scary! And the swelling will go down. It took way longer after my second pregnancy, which happened to be a c-section, too.
Your dad is very handsome!
That’s a really great picture of Hudson. One to frame, definately.
Oh no! I am so sorry about your rings. I have not worn my rings for over a year now. I took them off before I went to the hospital to have my daughter, and I never put them back on… I bet they would be too tight anyway because the VA humidity makes me feel so swollen!
Ug, so sorry about your ring! My e-ring has also never quite fit – the jeweler talked me into a quarter size down from what I thought my ring size was and I should have never listened to him. Every summer since I moan and moan about the finger swelling – I need to just take that sucker in! Thankfully I went up on my wedding ring… it would be a tricky one to resize and I’m assuming we’d have to buy another diamond.
Aww Erin! Your poor finger and ring!
My fingers were so swollen when I was preggers- I ended up getting a “fakey” to wear around. You know the looks we would get in SC for being preggers and not having a ring on!
Ahh I can’t believe how swelled up your finger got! That is the worst feeling when you can’t get a ring off, but at least once they’re resized they’ll be a little more comfortable! Your pictures of your boys are always so sweet, what ages they are at right now!
*what fun ages…sometimes my brain goes faster than I type!
The Indianapolis Children’s Museum is SO MUCH FUN!!
My little guy, Owen, is the same age as Hayes. We got that first little smile not long ago too and I don’t think I have seen anything sweeter. Ever.
OH MY! Hud looks like such a big boy in that pic! PRECIOUS! Miss yall! Hope your finger is ok now. That looks so painful! HUGS!
Oh my gosh~I almost warned you about not putting your ring on yet when you mentioned it in a previous post. I should’ve! I had the exact same thing happen to me after I’d had a baby. I tried the Windex idea (which I thought made it swell worse), dish soap, butter, vegetable oil. Nothing worked and my finger kept getting bigger and bigger. I ended up having to go to the ER to have it cut off because I got the bright idea to try my ring on at 11pm at night and my finger swelled like crazy right after I got it on. The ER was not careful cutting mine off and my jeweler cringed the next day when they saw what a trainwreck my ring was. They fixed it perfectly, though, and you’d never guess that it had been sawed in half. I’m sure yours will look good as new! I think I ended up having my ring sized a whole size larger and I’ve come to terms with the fact that I will probably never be the twig I was when I got married. Ha!
Erin – I love your blog. It’s so easy to relate to you – i just have to share this. I feel your ring pain! I am currently 33 weeks pregnant with our first – a girl due the beginning of August. And while I’ve only gained 22 pounds and my rings always seem to get a little tight in the summer – especially my wedding band which is actually smaller than my engagement ring. (My husband measured a ring that was too big when he had my engagement ring made). They just won’t budge somedays. So about a 3 weeks ago I stopped wearing my wedding band and just have my engagement ring on these days. I was all worried that people would think I was un-wed and knocked up – because I always look at peoples rings (and clothes and such). Hubby kept telling me I was crazy and no one would even notice. Well – last weekend we were at dinner and the waitress commented that my engagement ring was really pretty. She then asked me if we had a date set for our wedding… I had to laugh as I told her that no, we have been married for almost 3 years now – I just can’t wear the band because of the baby. She quickly moved to “so, when are you due”. ha ha ha! I totally felt like I belonged on 16 and Pregnant or something (although I am double that age!). I tried to get the band back on that night – but it’s not happening. And after reading this – I’m going to stop trying so I don’t end up having to get them cut off.
Sorry for the long story… I just can so relate and got a good laugh out of the ring drama.
My rings fit in the summer but not in the winter. Twice they have flown off while I was teaching and I had fourth graders on the floor hunting my engagement ring and wedding band.
Hayes is so adorable. I just love that smile.
Oh my gosh! I loooove your ring, where is it from? I need to email a picture of it to my boyfriend ASAP.
My fingers swell SIGNIFICANTLY when it’s hot, humid, when I’ve been drinking, when I fly, etc, so I totally feel your pain. So glad that you were able to get your rings cut off to feel some relief! Hopefully when you get them back they will be a perfect fit.
Your boys are so sweet in those pictures!
My ring has always been snug. I have no idea why it was sized so small! And I approved it! I have to tug it off more often than I like. Hot days in Texas don’t help! I think your experience is enough to get mine resized ASAP. So sorry it happened to you!
I can relate to the ring problem. I remember getting mine back on at some point after I had Ethan and not being able to remove them. I totally freaked out. Something about not being able to remove them did me in. I finally calmed down and soaking them in ice water thankfully worked, but even now 8.5 months after giving birth…they still are a little too tight. Oh well.
Oh my. I’m sorry about your finger – that looks painful!
I was super lucky in that my fingers didn’t swell during pregnancy but I was ready to resize them if they did! I can’t go a day without wearing my ring. My hands feel naked (ok ok, I know, they’re always naked).
I can’t believe that cutie smile from the baby!!!!! They age WAY too quickly.
Your poor finger!!! What a great smile from Hayes!
OUCH! Your poor fingers hurt me to look at the picture. My wedding band has always been snug too, DH got me a smaller size to allow the diamond to really “stand up” but we took them off on Mom’s day for good before they got too snug & he bought me a simple band from Tiffany’s to wear during preganancy and beyond…until the snug rings fit again. I’m so sorry you had to get them sawwed off…and that none of the tricks worked! You’re a brave woman for an ice water bath!
And aren’t your boys so precious! I hope I’m that lucky…
I feel so bad for you about your finger! I sometimes get kind of claustrophic if I can’t get my rings off so I know it must have been scary to have them stuck. Hudson is such a big boy now!
What an adorable baby smile!!!
So sorry to hear about your finger and rings, ouch! I can finally wear my wedding rings again that was one of the things I missed most during pregnancy. I love the Indianapolis Children’s Museum, we’re so lucky to have such a great museum in our city. Your sweet Hayes is adorable!
Your poor finger! Hopefully you get your rings back sooner rather than later. On a brighter note, your boys are as adorable as every!
Sorry about your rings (Ouch!), but I’m really glad that the jeweler can fix them
Thanks for all of the info on Hudson’s big boy room and Hayes’ nursery. I love finding out new home decor sources!
So sorry about your rings, it looked pretty painful. It’s so great that the jeweler can fix them for you. I’m sure Hudson had a blast at the Indianapolis Children’s Museum. My 28 year old husband still raves about his visits there as a child
I hope your finger is better now! I seriously did the same thing not long ago – the ring went on but would not come off and the more I panicked – the tighter it got. I finally got it off but I won’t be trying that again. My wedding band hasn’t fit since after I started fertility treatments. Boo!
That baby boy is presh. Love when they start smiling!!
I didn’t realize your parents lived in Indy. I was born there and lived there til I moved to Charlotte in elementary school. My entire extended family still lives there. Isn’t the children’s museum great? I have such fond memories of that carousel. 2 years ago, I got my 89 yo grandmother on it! Did you see the pony you can ride for a nickel? That thing is wild! Looks like you had a fun trip!
Those pictures of your boys? Amazing. You have the happiest little ones ever! Sorry about your rings, that’s a bummer! Mine get tight in the summer and I’m sure I won’t be able to wear them when I’m pregnant
Oh my goodness, your poor ring finger!! I am so sorry you had to have your rings cut off, I’m sure that was quite the ordeal. Hopefully they’ll fit perfectly when you get them back!
Love the pictures of the cute baby smiles!
Love your pics! Your poor finger! That happened to a girl that I used to work with. Except it happened BEFORE she delivered. She also had to have her ring sawed off. Speaking of fingers, is Hudson a thumb sucker? My 2 year old is! I wish he wasn’t anymore! It’s starting to work my nerves:)
Ooh I can’t wait until my little one starts smiling
