Five on Friday

Hallelujah and amen! Friday is here, friends!

I’m linking up again with Darci, Natasha, and friends for Five on Friday! I really enjoyed this link up last week, and thought I’d do it again and take the opportunity to share five things that I’m loving this week!

1. Lennon and Maisy Stella

For the past few weeks, the boys and I have been obsessed with Lennon and Maisy Stella. If I need a little pick-me-up, I just go to their You Tube channel and listen to their perfect harmonies. I may never hear the Lumineers again without wishing it was Lennon and Maisy singing instead. And I really like the Lumineers!

I just think these girls are fantastic, and I love them on Nashville.

Their cover of “Call Your Girlfriend” is just fantastic! Enjoy!

2. Oh The Places You’ll Go

A few weeks ago, I repinned this pin, which also happened to get repinned a few times. But anyway… the idea is that you get a copy of a good “life” book for your kids. I like Dr. Seuss’s, “Oh The Places You’ll Go.” So I got a copy of the book for Hudson and Hayes, and on the last day of school I asked their teachers to all sign the inside of the book and write messages to the boys.

I just love this idea so much, and the idea is that all of their teachers from now until they finish high school can sign the book! (Mel from The Larson Lingo also blogged about this yesterday and she did it for her kids, too.)

3. A Little Salty to Cut the Sweet by Sophie Hudson

So Boo Mama’s book is finally out! And I can tell you that if I have any moments of free time this weekend I will be reading this book! I just love Sophie’s writing voice and love her stories of the south and of family. She writes with so much heart and humor. Get this book!

4. Swim Lessons

Hudson had swim lessons this week. He did a fantastic job! This is his fourth summer to take them from the same guy and this year he wasn’t even remotely scared or nervous. We still have one more week of lessons and I am just so excited to see how well he does at the end of that week! I forgot my big camera at lessons yesterday and I only have a couple of not-so-great iPhone photos.

5. Vitamin C- Graduation

I was texting with my friend, Kristen, last night and we were sharing our mutual love for Carrie Underwood’s new song, “See You Again.” (A seriously fantastic song.) And we thought it was so smart of her to time the release with graduation time, because the lyrics are perfect for a graduation song.

When I finished high school in 2000 (I still want to say it like Conan O’Brien and sing, “In the year 2000.”), the song “Graduation” by Vitamin C was very popular. I mean…. I really have no words. I am pretty sure we thought it was a good song, and now I’m just rolling my eyes at my 17-year-old self. What unfortunate music choices we had.

What was the graduation song on the radio when you graduated? Our class exited the graduation auditorium to Jimmy Buffett’s “Changes in Attitudes, Changes in Latitudes.”

  1. First, Lennon and Maisy are awesome! I hadn’t seen that video yet.
Second, LOVE the idea of the “life” book. How special will that be?! I just love Charlotte’s daycare teachers, so I might have to steal that idea and start early on it.
Third, I thought that Vitamin C song was tops when I graduated in 2000. Like you, I look back thinking, “What was I thinking?!” hahaha.

  2. Thanks for posting the sisters from Nashville! Every time I watch them on Nashville I think about finding them on YouTube and then always forget about it. They are so talented and there is NOTHING like family harmony, especially sisters. My sister and I used to sing together in church a lot and we harmonized well, but not like these gals!

Love the book idea!! That Vitamin C song….bless it….I graduated in 2001 and I think we used Leann Womack’s “I hope you dance.” I am not totally sure though and it could have been some other lamo song. LOL I didn’t realize we are so close in age though.

  4. graduation songs…bless.

I graduated in 2001 and that Vitamin C song was still heavily used for our graduation times. As well as Eve 6 – Here’s to the Night and Green Day – Good Riddance.

  5. Haha!! Okay, The Vitamin C song takes me BACK….. we all totally did think it was such a great song….. I actually think I cried days before graduation when I was all nostalgic anyway and it came on the radio. So embarrassing.

I love that you did the “Oh the Places You’ll Go” book for the boys! I’d pinned that as well awhile back and planned on buying one and having his MDO teachers sign it, but that never happened. :/ I’ll have to get it together next year!

And this is my first time hearing about Lennon and Maisy!! How adorable!!!!!! I’m going to have to look up more songs!

Thanks again, girl for joining our little link-up! I did just realize that my attempt at being super tech savy failed and that the “grab button” I made isn’t linking back correctly! So, the logo above sends you no where. Sorry about that! :/ Here’s the correct link!

  6. Love those girls! So talented! Just finished Boo Mama’s book and I loved it! Ha, just looked at all the previous exclamation points- apparently I am full of enthusiasm today. That’s what a week of teaching VBS will do, I suppose.

  7. I graduated in ’99 and Green Days’s “Good Riddance” (Time of Your Life) was super popular. This made me laugh. Definitely brought back memories of nostalgic high school and early college days.

  8. Love those sweet girls – too cute! I’ll have to share with my kiddos. That Dr. Seuss book idea has been circulating on Pinterest for a while now and it’s been so much fun to capture sweet messages from my kiddos’ teachers. I did “Oh the Places You’ll Go” for all 3 of them, but I wish I’d thought to pick a different book for each of them – it seems like that would have made it a little more special.

  9. Love love love Lennon & Maisy. Definitely have added their covers to my Spotify playlists. :)

    2. Can’t wait to get my hands on Sophie’s book.

    3. I totally remember that Vitamin-C song. I need to check out See you again. Not sure if I’ve heard it yet or not. Graduation songs just get me so teary and nostalgic.

    4. Have a great weekend, friend :)

  11. I also graduated in ’99 and I remember Sarah McLachlan’s “I Will Remember You” being very popular. We all played it over and over and cried. Ha!

  12. I’ve never seen those girls but am now stuck on their channel. So long productivity!

We used The Graduation Song too and Green Days “Good Riddance (Time of your Life)”. I remember thinking that Vitamin-C song was the JAM and getting all choked up over it. Now.. kind of cheesy ;) Oh well. Fun back then right?!

  21. Michelle says:

I graduated in 2001 and still remember thinking how lucky the class of 2000 was that they used that song :)

  22. jenn v says:

Man, I totally remember that song! It brings me back to high school and almost makes me wish I was 17 again. The big song when I graduated in 2001 was Eve 6′s Here’s to the Night which if you listen to it, it’s about a one night stand. Interesting choice for a graduation song lol. I don’t think we had a song when we left our ceremony though.

  23. Melissa W says:

I’m Melissa, a long-time reader, but never comment. So, the Carrie Underwood music video “See you Again” is very special to my family because my husband and his sister are in it! She’s wearing the green graduation gown and runs down the hall to meet my husband (her big brother) from her high school graduation a year ago. We live in Michigan and they live in Washington state, and it was a HUGE surprise to her! Sony music contacted my husband after finding his video of the surprise on YouTube! Here’s a link to the original video that my husband posted (and we are AMAZED at how many views it has received!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXhWxYQYz0s

So, it’s his 2 seconds of fame, but it’s FUN, that’s for sure!

  24. I love that Carrie Underwood song too! The man who acted as my uncle all my life recently passed away and I love the line that says “I will see you again, this is not where it ends.” It’s nice to be reminded that this Earth is definitely not where the story ends.

Our song was “Good Riddance” by Green Day

    Class of 1999 : )
